ICE is ripping apart families in Vermont, including that of Hussien Noor Hussien of Burlington, a 63 year old cab driver, long-time Vermont resident, respected member of the community, legal permanent resident of the U.S., naturalized American citizen, sole support of his wife and five children. Hussien was arrested at the Burlington Airport, where he had gone to pick up a fare. You can read about the case here.
UPDATE, February 7, 2026 Hussien was freed on bail by a federal judge on February 4. That same day, ICE detained asylum seeker Steven Tendo. This case has been widely reported. Check out VtDigger's story, "Ugandan minister Steven Tendo, who faced brutal torture abroad, detained by ICE."
