I'm thankful so far for the Senate Democrats' courage and determination in resisting the fascist Trump regime. The "One Big Beautiful Bill" is an abomination, and Democrats are perfectly right to insist that at least something of benefit to the common people must be included, namely health care subsidies, before they can even grudgingly agree to it. But now Trump and his conscienceless stooges are pretending that the resultant government shutdown threatens to interrupt SNAP (a/k/a "food stamp") benefits. Democrats need to get the message out loud and clear that the government shutdown has nothing to do with interruption of SNAP benefits. Congress long ago set up a contingency fund so that poor people could continue to eat even in circumstances like the present. In short, the money for that program's continuation exists and has been appropriated; it is the Trump regime's illegal and unconstitutional choice not to spend it as Congress intended. In effect, Trump is tearing a page out of Netanyahu's playbook. Starve innocent third parties to put pressure on his opponents. He is going to starve Americans in order to deprive Americans of health care. Nothing could reveal more clearly how monstrous the Trump regime is, and that this monstrous regime is genuinely at war with America. If only that message could be gotten to the people!
